POS problems are not always POS problems
When the provider confirms its equipment is functioning but the problem continues, the internet connection, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, switching, routing, congestion, or another part of the surrounding network may need investigation.
These are diagnostic signals, not guesses. The visit confirms the root cause before work begins.
The POS terminal may be healthy while the provider connection, modem, or internet path surrounding it is unavailable or inconsistent.
Poor coverage, access point placement, interference, congestion, and device capacity can affect terminals, tablets, printers, and operational devices.
Aging equipment, unstable ports, improper configuration, capacity limits, or a failure in the local network can interrupt communication.
Damaged cabling, loose connections, changed addresses, duplicate addressing, or a poor network handoff can make a device appear defective.
Guest traffic, cameras, cloud services, delivery platforms, updates, and other devices may compete with business-critical connectivity.
The POS provider may confirm its system is functioning while the surrounding path still contains a problem that requires investigation.
Toast network boundaries
Toast deployments may include dedicated networking infrastructure. That environment should remain aligned with Toast requirements while the restaurant’s broader business network supports everything else in the location.

Business network
Office computers, management devices, employee and guest Wi-Fi, cameras, displays, smart devices, monitoring, and broader internet redundancy remain part of the business infrastructure.
Clover, Square & other platforms
Deployments that rely more directly on the business’s wired or wireless network can be affected by weak Wi-Fi, poor access point placement, congestion, unstable internet, bad Ethernet connections, or aging equipment. We evaluate the underlying network around those devices.
More than a POS terminal
Even when a provider manages part of the POS environment, many other systems continue to depend on the restaurant or store's broader internet and network.
Registers, credit card devices, fixed terminals, handhelds, and the provider-specific equipment supporting transactions.
Order printers, receipt stations, office printers, and shared devices that depend on reliable network communication.
Delivery tablets, online marketplaces, cloud integrations, ordering platforms, and kitchen systems receiving remote transactions.
Management computers, employee tablets, VoIP, business applications, inventory tools, and other daily technology.
Security equipment, TVs, digital menu boards, music systems, connected displays, and other always-on devices.
Staff connectivity and controlled customer internet access operating alongside, but separate from, critical business systems.
Orders can be delayed, duplicated, missed, or relayed manually even when the printer itself is functional. The failure may involve local connectivity, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, switches, internet availability, configuration, or the provider-managed POS environment.
If the issue is inside a provider-managed environment, the POS provider may need to make the final correction. Our role is to help identify whether the surrounding business infrastructure is the actual source.
Why performance changes during the rush
Lunch, dinner, weekends, or a retail rush can introduce many simultaneous users, services, and background activities. A problem that appears only under load may be capacity or congestion, not a simple outage.
Remote orders, marketplaces, tablets, cloud integrations, and kitchen workflows increase internet dependency during service.
Staff and customers arrive, increasing simultaneous wireless connections and the load on access points and internet service.
Multiple streams, cloud recording, and remote access can consume significant ongoing network capacity.
Management systems, business software, communications, synchronization, and remote services continue operating during peak periods.
Entertainment, digital signage, and background services may create traffic competing with operational systems.
Software updates, device downloads, backups, and other scheduled tasks can create slowdowns at the worst possible time.
Separate the different parts of the business
For Toast locations, the dedicated Toast environment should remain consistent with Toast architecture. The surrounding business network can organize other systems according to their purpose.
Provider-specific POS equipment and related devices remain aligned with the POS vendor's architecture and support requirements.
Office computers, administrative resources, employee systems, and business applications use the broader business network.
Customers receive controlled internet access without joining the same network as operational, office, camera, or management systems.
Surveillance traffic can be organized separately for better security, visibility, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
Displays, TVs, music systems, signage, and other connected devices do not need unrestricted access to business resources.
Routers, switches, access points, controllers, and administrative interfaces remain protected from guests and ordinary devices.
Infrastructure support around the POS
We support the network layers surrounding the location while respecting the responsibilities and requirements of the POS, payment, internet, camera, and other specialized providers.
Investigate internet service, business Wi-Fi, cabling, switches, routers, configuration, and the path to the affected device.
Determine whether kitchen, receipt, or shared printing symptoms appear device-related, network-related, or inside a provider-managed environment.
Evaluate kitchens, storage, offices, customer areas, outdoor spaces, thick walls, interference, access point placement, and device capacity.
Separate customers, protect business devices, limit bandwidth, reduce streaming, apply schedules, and prevent guest-to-guest communication when appropriate.
Identify connected devices, high-bandwidth systems, guest consumption, peak periods, unexpected equipment, outages, and network device status when supported.
Evaluate secondary wired service, another provider, cellular backup, traffic priorities, and a continuity strategy for the business as a whole.
Backup internet for the whole operation
Online ordering, delivery platforms, office computers, VoIP, cloud applications, communications, remote management, and other services may all need continuity beyond the POS itself.
Prioritize during an outage
Business-critical services, ordering, communications, and operational cloud applications can receive priority while guest Wi-Fi, large downloads, updates, and non-essential streaming are limited.
Plan or modernize
The surrounding infrastructure should fit the provider-specific POS requirements while supporting every other connected system the business depends on.
Plan internet service, broader business network, Wi-Fi coverage, guest access, cameras, office systems, digital displays, backup connectivity, equipment placement, and provider-specific POS requirements before opening.
Identify active and obsolete equipment, Wi-Fi networks, guest access, switches, camera connectivity, internet services, backup paths, and areas that need organization or targeted modernization.
Scope matters
Miami Tech Emergency does not replace the POS or payment provider. Provider-managed applications, merchant accounts, software, and dedicated POS equipment remain within the appropriate vendor’s scope. We focus on internet connectivity, business Wi-Fi, guest access, broader network organization, cameras, office systems, monitoring, and redundancy, and help identify the party best positioned to make the final correction.
Clear before we begin
Our on-site diagnostic visit is a flat $150 that covers travel and the first hour of hands-on diagnosis. If you approve the recommended work, the $150 is credited toward the repair. You'll always know the price before anything is touched.
Standard rate for Miami-Dade during business hours. Broward, after-hours, and multi-site visits are quoted when you book and always confirmed before the visit.
Recurring connectivity problems deserve investigation across the complete environment.
